About Upward Escape

When I started this blog I was fascinated with huge routes in the mountains, routes where the only viable means of descent is to climb up, summit and descend a different side of the mountain. To me, this Upward Escape was the ultimate form of commitment, where performance is essential because failure to summit would mean extensive suffering. These epic routes are few and far between but many times in the mountains I've found myself in difficult situations that force a creative, bold solution.

The alpine environment graces me with new perspectives on friendships, risk, adventure, respect and constantly forms the way I want to live my life. New ideas, goals, friendships and opportunities seem to sprout during each of my mountain wanderings. My life would be incomplete without all the life lessons and friendships I've forged and learned deep in the backcountry.

Upward Escape is my place to reflect on my time in the mountains and my adventures. I write mostly for me and my friends, but please read and enjoy! If my writing inspires you or gets you stoked, let me know! If you want route beta or have significant questions, please ask! Or if you want to go climbing, I'm always ready for an adventure!
